Malaysian Government Scholarships 2011 for International Students

The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in critical fields in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Governmentâ€™s effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.

Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship and further their studies in any selected and well-established Malaysian public and private universities. This scholarship is divided into two (2) categories of study: Postgraduate and Post-doctoral Studies

ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS), applicants must fit the following criteria:

a) Not be more than 45 years of age during application.

b) Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.

c) Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:

IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580, computer-based test with a score of at least 230 and internet-based test with a score at least 92.

d) In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants

e) Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the needs and interests of Malaysia (research-based programme only)

f) Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia).

VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Each scholarship consists of:

a) Air tickets from recipient’s capital city to Malaysia
b) An approved tuition fees
c) Monthly maintenance allowance
d) Annual grant for books and internal travel
e) Medical / Health Insurance
f) Installation and Termination grant
g) Thesis allowance (will be paid at the beginning of research (after proposal defense) and the balance will be paid only upon submission of the thesis) For PhD and Post-Doctoral only

* The Government of Malaysia reserves the rights to review the value of awards at anytime (and if such changes are made, the value of scholarship will be changed and the effective date will be informed to the successful candidates).

PRIORITY STUDY AREAS

Field of studies are in the following priority areas:

a) Science and Engineering
b) Agriculture and Fisheries
c) Economics and Islamic Finance
d) Information and Communication Technology
e) Biotechnology
f) Biosecurity and Food Safety
g) Infrastructure and Utility
h) Environmental Studies
i) Health including but not limited to, nursing, medicine, clinical pharmacy

* Applicants may choose any related course within the field/areas mentioned above.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

a) High-level academic achievement and at least 3 years relevant work experience
b) The quality of the research proposal and its potential contribution towards advancement of technology and human well being.
c) Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English Language

GENERAL CONDITION OF AWARD

a) Scholarship holder must undertake full-time studies for postgraduate and post-doctoral studies at a campus of Malaysian Universities.
b) It is the responsibility of the scholarship holders to confirm admission to the university.
c) Scholarship holders must not change their programme during tenure of the scholarship except with written permission from their university and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
d) Scholarship holders must follow the approved programmes and abide by the university’s rules, regulations and codes of conduct. Any suspension from the university will result in immediate suspension of award. Monthly allowances are not payable during suspension, including suspension due to illness.
e) It is the responsibility of successful candidates to apply for and meet the requirements for the issuing of an appropriate entry visa including medical examination. The offer of the scholarship does not guarantee the granting of a visa.
f) Scholarship holders must maintain satisfactory progress and good standing as stipulated by their host university and degree programme, or the scholarship will be withdrawn.
g) The scholarships are tenable in Malaysian universities and research must be carried out in Malaysia.
h) Scholarship holders are not allowed to take any paid employment during their tenure unless with written approval from the host university.

Eligibility

Beasiswa Pemerintah Italia 2011 Untuk S1, S2, S3, dan Short Course

Beasiswa hanya diberikan untuk menempuh pendidikan atau penelitian di institut negeri atau yang diakui secara resmi:

Università degli Studi, Sekolah Tinggi dan Politeknik;
Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik;
Institut Restorasi;
Sekolah Nasional Sinematografi;
Pusat dan laboratorium penelitian, perpustakaan, arsip dan museum yang merupakan bagian dari studi di universitas tempat mahasiswa terdaftar..

Beasiswa tidak dapat diberikan untuk studi yang dilangsungkan di:

Institusi asing (universitas, akademi, perpustakaan dan sekolah jenis apapun), walaupun berada di wilayah Italia;
Pusat dan laboratorium penelitian privat yang tidak diakui.

I. JENIS BEASISWA

a. Kursus bahasa jangka pendek (3 bulan):
Kursus ini juga diperuntukkan sebagai tahap persiapan bahasa, bagi mereka yang ingin melanjutkan studi di universitas di Italia.

b. Program Sarjana :
Karena sesuai dengan U.U. 264/99 penerimaan mahasiswa di program sarjana akan melalui proses saringan, disarankan agar pemohon mendaftarkan diri pada program lainnya sebagai pilihan alternatif, agar apabila tidak diterima pada satu program, kesempatan untuk mempertahankan beasiswanya tidak akan hilang.

c. Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik:
Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik (akademi dan konservatori), Sekolah Tinggi Restorasi dan Sekolah Tinggi Sinematografi.

d. Kursus Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Italia untuk Dosen Bahasa Italia (1 atau 3 bulan)
Kursus ini diperuntukkan bagi dosen Indonesia yang mengajar bahasa Italia. Beasiswa untuk kursus mengenai pembelajaran dan pengajaran bahasa Italia dilaksanakan di Università per Stranieri di Perugia, Siena dan Roma Tre atau pada institusi-institusi lain yang berhak mengeluarkan sertifikat pengajaran bahasa Italia sebagai bahasa asing (L2).

e. Pasca Sarjana :

Program untuk mendapatkan gelar Master tingkat I dan II (dengan jangka waktu minimum satu tahun akademik). Dihimbau kepada para calon mahasiswa untuk mencermati dengan baik biaya perkuliahan program yang akan diambil.
Para calon penerima beasiswa untuk gelar Master akan diberitahukan mengenai biaya studi dan kemungkinan bahwa program tersebut mengharuskan mahasiswanya untuk mengikuti perkuliahan di institusi akademik yang berada di luar Italia.

f. Program S3:
Kriteria penerimaan pada program tersebut ditentukan oleh masing-masing Universitas. Disarankan menghubungi masing-masing institusi atau mencari informasi pada situs-situs internet terkait.

g. Penelitian:
Harus mendaftarkan diri dan mengikuti program sarjana dan/atau program pasca sarjana.

h. Spesialisasi:
Dalam kategori kursus spesialisasi tidak termasuk jurusan kedokteran (UU 08.08.1991 n.257).

NB.
Calon penerima beasiswa diharuskan untuk memiliki surat penerimaan dari institusi yang dipilih.

Beasiswa untuk seluruh program yang sudah disebutkan di atas (kecuali yang sudah diterangkan) berdurasi 9 bulan. Periode beasiswa dimulai dari Januari 2012 dan hanya untuk tahun ajaran 2011-2012.

II. PERSYARATAN

Syarat-syarat utama bagi calon penerima beasiswa adalah sebagai berikut:

1) Kemampuan berbahasa Italia
Kemampuan berbahasa Italia merupakan syarat utama yang harus dipenuhi oleh para calon melalui wawancara di Institut Kebudayaan Italia atau menunjukkan Sertifikat Bahasa Italia. Syarat tersebut tidak berlaku untuk program kursus bahasa Italia.

2) Ijazah
Calon penerima beasiswa harus memiliki ijazah sesuai dengan yang diminta untuk pendaftaran pada institusi akademik yang dipilih. Beberapa ketentuan mengenai hal tersebut:

Ijazah harus diterjemahkan ke bahasa Italia dan disahkan oleh perwakilan Pemerintah Italia di negara tempat studi dilakukan.
Ijazah harus disertai surat pernyataan oleh Kedutaan Besar Italia tentang nilai ijazah di negara tempat studi dilakukan.
Untuk pendaftaran pada Program Sarjana di Universitas-universitas di Italia, calon penerima beasiswa harus memiliki Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Umum atau setara, yang di negaranya dianggap sah untuk memasuki tingkat Universitas.
Untuk pendaftaran pada Program Spesialisasi, Pasca Sarjana dan Program Master tingkat I dan II di Universitas Italia dibutuhkan ijazah sarjana yang setara dengan ijazah Italia guna melakukan pendaftaran dan dokumen lainnya yang akan ditetapkan oleh institusi akademik yang dipilih oleh calon penerima beasiswa.
Untuk menjadi mahasiswa pada Sekolah Tinggi Seni dan Musik dibutuhkan sertifikat/ijazah Sekolah Menengah Umum (SMU) atau setara, untuk dapat diterima pada akademi kesenian atau konservatorium.
Untuk mengikuti kursus Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Italia dibutuhkan ijazah Sekolah Menengah Umum (SMU).

*Proses penerjemahan dokumen sekolah dilakukan apabila pemohon beasiswa sudah dinyatakan lulus seleksi beasiswa.

3) Batas Usia
Batas usia untuk penerima beasiswa adalah 35 tahun. Batas usia tersebut tidak berlaku untuk dosen bahasa Italia, dengan syarat dosen tersebut melakukan kegiatan mengajar bahasa Italia. Pengecualian untuk Sekolah Tinggi Sinematografi yang menuntut batas usia yang tidak melebihi 27 tahun.
Calon penerima beasiswa minimal harus berumur 18 tahun.

4) Pengajuan permohonan
Aplikasi permohonan beasiswa harus dan hanya dapat dilakukan secara online di :

CATATAN :

Selain mengisi formulir on-line, pemohon beasiswa juga diharuskan untuk meng-upload:
- dokumen identitas diri, yaitu paspor
- pas foto berwarna ukuran 4×6
Apabila pemohon beasiswa berhasil lolos tahap seleksi administrasi, maka pada saat dipanggil untuk wawancara diharuskan membawa surat rekomendasi asli (pemberi rekomendasi harus sesuai dengan yang sudah dituliskan di formulir online.)
Tidak perlu menyerahkan formulir hard copy.
Apabila pemohon dinyatakan lulus tahap seleksi administrasi, pemberitahuan resmi hanya akan dilakukan secara online.

PhD Fellowships in Earth Science at GEOSIM, Germany

The graduate research school GEOSIM (Explorative Simulation in Earth-Sciences) is a collaborative effort of researchers in departments of Earth and Mathematical Sciences at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ Potsdam), Potsdam University and Freie Universität Berlin.

We invite applications for 10 PhD fellowships in the field of simulation of Earth System processes.

GEOSIM focuses on research in three critical fields of Earth Sciences by using simulation as an explorative tool dedicated to advancing our qualitative and quantitative understanding of Earth’s complex systems. These fields will be: solid earth dynamics and earthquakes, atmosphere-hydrosphere dynamics and climate, and hydrological flow and transport processes. The fields will be studied by integrating techniques such as data exploration, assimilation, and model selection and validation; analysis of scaling properties of geo-processes; explorative simulation and computer-aided modelling of incompletely known systems. We aim to train a new generation of young, interdisciplinary scientists with skills in combining applied geosciences with the development of physical concepts of Earth systems, mathematical abstraction, and the use of high-performance computing.

What we offer:

Training will include advanced courses in the above subjects, summer schools, and workshops complementing the research work in the topic of the PhD thesis. Candidates will be co-supervised by an earth scientist and a mathematician and will benefit from a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment. The three-year PhD fellowships amount 1500 euro/month.

What we ask:

We expect candidates to contribute to the development of their own research topic and to participate in the school’s curriculum. At the time of appointment, candidates should have a MSc degree (or equivalent) in at least one of the following fields and a strong affinity with a complementary discipline: Earth Sciences, Physics, Meteorological Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Sciences or Engineering.

The DAAD supports these selected programs with a certain quota of scholarships and with financial assistance for a special tutoring system. At the end of the course (programs run 12 to 36 months, depending on the particular institution) participants can obtain an internationally recognized Master’s or in some courses PhD degree.

Criteria for applying:

* Age limit: 36 years of age at the time of application (for some courses 32 years)
* For some courses, Bachelor degree should have been completed not longer than 6 years at the time of application. Concerning this matter, please directly contact the coordinator of the respective study program
* Degree: Bachelor or Master
* GPA: min 2,75 for Master candidates (some study programs applied GPA more than 2,75. Please see the detail on the website of each study program) and 3,00 for Doctoral candidates
* Work experience: at least two years after completing Bachelor degree.
* Language skill:
* For postgraduate courses held in English request an international TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based) or IELTS (band 6). Some courses may expect a different level. For detailed information see the website of the relevant course.

* You may apply only two study programs offered by this scholarship program. Prior to the application you are strongly recommended to visit the website of the study programs of your choice. If you find information about GPA, TOEFL, application deadline, etc. that do not match the DAAD pre-requisites, you must fulfill the pre-requisites from the study program.
* All papers must be submitted in triplicate (1 original, 2 copies). Applications, which do not clearly specify the desired degree course, or those that are not complete in all respects, cannot be processed, and will not be considered.
* Only complete applications will be sent to Germany. The selection at the respected universities will be held in October 2011 until the mid of February 2012. During those times it is possible for some applicants to be contacted by the university to conduct a telephone interview.

Penerima beasiswa akan mendapatkan: biaya pendidikan selama jenjang pendidikannya S1 (5 th), S2-S3-postdoktoral (3 th); uang saku per bulan 1100RUB/ 37,2USD (S1, S2), atau uang saku per bulan 1500RUB/ 50,8USD (S3, postdoktoral). S1 dan S2 akan mengikuti fakultas persiapan 1th untuk belajar Bahasa Rusia dan tiba di Rusia bulan September. S3 dan postdoktoral tiba di Rusia bulan Desember.

University of Ghent Research Funding for Doctoral Students from Developing countries

With support from its “Special Research Fund” (BOF), Ghent University wishes to support university research groups or research centres in developing countries in their aim to grow into excellent research centres by upgrading local academic personnel. Therefore Ghent University grants PhD scholarships to promising PhD students from developing countries who wish to carry out half of their PhD research at Ghent University and half in a university in a developing country.

No restrictions are imposed on the field of research, nevertheless preference will be given to topics that are relevant for development. Relevance for development measures the degree in which the action of development corresponds with the expectations of the beneficiaries, the needs of the country, global priorities and the policies of partners and donors.

Masters Degree Scholarships for Students from Developing Country in Wageningen University

The Anne van den Ban Scholarship Fund, previously known as the ‘Stichting Redelijk Studeren’ (Sharing Responsibility for Students), is named after Dr. Ir. Anne van den Ban, former Professor of ‘Voorlichtingskunde’ (Rural Extension) at Wageningen University. The fund was founded in 1992 by two Wageningen alumni.

The scholarship fund enables promising students from developing countries and from countries in Middle and Eastern Europe to study at Wageningen University. As a result, it contributes to the education of competent and motivated local experts, who can then play a leading role in solving the structural problems of their country in agricultural production, rural development and the environment.

Every year, dozens of students apply to the fund. Your contribution can enable even more students to begin or complete a study at Wageningen University.

University of Exeter Sports Scholarships 2011

Exeter is proud of its high quality reputation that matches its whole hearted commitment to delivering sporting excellence. Sports Scholars play a key role in maintaining these high standards of achievement; they compete successfully in several of the sports teams that form part of the University High Performance Programme. On average, over 50 Scholarships are awarded each year.

Eligibility
Sports Scholarships are available to undergraduate and postgraduate applicants as well as current students. Candidates must be of outstanding sporting ability who show evidence of achievement or potential at national level. They are only offered to students who have gained an offer of a place or normal admission to a course on their academic qualifications. However, it is not necessary to wait for an offer of a place before submitting your registration of interest. No special reduction in entry criteria is offered as part of the scholarship, nor does the offer of a scholarship carry with it an offer of a place.

Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis and can be renewable for up to a further two years, subject to satisfactory sporting performance, academic progress and general conduct. The scholar will be assessed at the end of each year and they will have to apply for re-nomination for an award. There is no support offered through the Sports Scholarship Scheme to help finance course, tuition or international fees.

The University will make every effort to accommodate your training and performance needs however, no dispensation is offered from the normal course requirements in terms of assessment, progression or final degree classification.

In return for an award, every scholar must be a student at the University of Exeter and compete for the University in BUCS events.

To receive an award you can study at either the Exeter or Cornwall campuses. However, if the main training sessions for your sport take place at Exeter please note that you may have to travel up to train and compete accordingly. Awards
Sports Scholarships will be tailored to the needs of the individual but will include a cash sum for sporting expenses/discounted accommodation costs from £500 up to a maximum of £1,000 and for exceptional athletes, this can rise to £2,000. A full package of support services equating to a cash equivalent of £500 is also provided.

In the main, the Sports Scholarship Scheme is funded centrally by the University High Performance Programme. However, several partners and local and national sponsors also show great generosity by financing several individual scholarships and bursaries.

Golf
Exeter is one of only 12 institutions in the UK to be awarded an educational development grant from the Royal & Ancient to help Exeter administer a performance programme for elite student golfers. Who can apply for sports scholarships?
Performers from any sport recognised by the AU will be considered, but emphasis is placed on the following High Performance Focus Sports:

* Tennis

However, outstanding performers from any sport will be considered. All of the sports mentioned above have nationally recognised reputations for competition and excellence at Exeter, along with first-class sports-specific training facilities.

How do you apply?
The submission of application forms needs to be undertaken by the 31st March. Apply online using our Online Application Form.
Late applications may be considered after consultation with the Assistant Director of Sport, in order to avoid disappointing any potential sports stars. Late applicants are advised to contact the Assistant Director as soon as possible.

The Sports Scholarship Panel will then assess all applications and invite short listed athletes to formally apply for the second stage of the scheme’s application process at the end of May 2011. This will require a more detailed submission accompanied by 2 sports specific references. The panel will then meet again to decide upon recommendations for awards.

In most circumstances short-listed applicants will receive an invitation in mid July to attend a sports specific screening at the University during pre-season training in September 2011. Following this, a final decision on awards will be made at the beginning of October.

In certain circumstances the offer of an award can be made to applicants by mid-July but this is at the sole discretion of the panel members. If successful with your application, you will be assigned a level of award and notified on what you will need to do next.

The Bloomsbury Colleges consortium brings together six University of London colleges comprising Birkbeck (Bbk), Institute of Education (IoE), London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Royal Veterinary College (RVC), School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and The School of Pharmacy (SoP).

A maximum of 9 places and 9 fellowships may also be made available for the most deserving applicants of the three PhD programs. Said places and fellowships will be assigned, according to merit, by a Board composed of a representative for each of the three programs and the Dean of the PhD School.

REQUIREMENTS

Applications can be submitted by Italian and non-Italian citizens who:

* have completed or are completing their graduate studies and
* have at least a B2 (CEFR) level of competence in English

Graduate qualifications admitted:

* Italian degrees: two-year or four-year graduate degrees;
* non-Italian degrees of Italian equivalent standard, recognised as such by the PhD Faculty Board.

Prospective students who have not achieved a degree by the application deadline are also allowed to apply, in which case a conditional offer will be made, and they will have to submit the required certificate by 30th September 2011, or enrolment will not be allowed.

In order to complete their application prospective students will have to:

* register in order to obtain Personal ID and Password;
* enter the required information in the spaces provided;
* upload some documents;
* send some documents by post.

Prospective students are responsible for the information they will upload and for the validity of the certificates they will submit. The University has the right to verify the information and the validity of the documents provided and exclude the students at any time, also after completion of the enrolment procedure.

The online application procedure is available from 15th October 2010. The application closing date is 15 February 2011. This deadline is not negotiable.

Applicants can access the procedure more than once, each time saving the information or the uploaded documents by clicking on “SAVE”. However, the referees’ names and e-mail addresses can only be entered and saved once, and cannot be changed.

An e-mail will be sent to the referees as soon as applicants save their e-mail addresses.

Applicants can submit their application by clicking on “SUBMIT” without having completed the uploading. The uploading can be completed after submission. No uploading will be possible after 15th February, 2011.

This deadline applies to applicants and referees.

Prospective students are allowed to apply for more than one PhD program.

Should they apply for more than one program, they will have to use separate procedures, both on line and by post.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Admisson to the programs is decided by the Admission Board, who will evaluate the suitability of applicants. The members of the Board will be appointed in conformity to the University rules and regulations.

The assessment is based on:

* English language competence (pre-requisite)
* curriculum vitae
* academic records
* international graduate admission tests scores (GMAT/ GRE)
* statement of purpose
* reference letters
* others (e.g. publications)

The assessment criteria are the following:

* 40 points for applicant’s curriculum vitae and academic records;
* 30 points for GMAT/GRE;
* 20 points for statement of purpose and reference letters;
* 10 points for other submitted documents (e.g. publications).

Minimum total points for admission to all PhD programs: 50 points.
